This privacy notice relates to personal data processed by the Office of Ivan Lewis MP, Member of Parliament for Bury South.
IP addresses and log file data
This site does not automatically capture or store personal information, other than logging the user’s IP Address or the location of your computer or network on the Internet, for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. (If you are connected to the Internet you have an IP address, for example an IP address might read “22.214.171.124”). We also use IP addresses in the aggregate to track which pages people visit in order to improve the quality of the site. Ivan’s website contains links to other websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these websites.
Data collection and use
You may be asked for personal information when you contact Ivan’s office for assistance, register with his website, complete a form or survey sent to you by the office or visit the office. In each case I will ask for your explicit consent to use your information and I will only use it for the purpose for which you provide it. Please see below the information we ask for and what this information is used for.
In each case we will only use the information about you for the purpose for which you provide it. We will not sell or disclose this information to outside organisations or individuals without your permission, nor transfer it outside the United Kingdom. You may remove or change your details at any time.
How we protect your information
Our website and e-mail domain have security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control.
Correcting your information
If you need to correct the information you provided us with when you subscribed to our e-mail list, you can do so through your personal form provided on-line. If you need to change your e-mail address, you can unsubscribe from our mailing lists and sign up again using your new information. Or if you have registered with a username and password you may change your details at any time via the login page without needing to re-register.

The Data Controller is Ivan Lewis MP and the Responsible Officer is Sharon Tobias – Administrative Manager.
What does the Office do?
The office discharges the duties and functions of an elected Member of Parliament. As part of this work, we conduct constituency casework and respond to policy queries, for which we must process personal data of our constituents. We also manage a small, non-political mailing list for the purpose of sending Ivan’s Newsletter and any other important updates.
How do we process data?
This office processes constituents’ data under the lawful basis of public task. In instances where this lawful basis is not sufficient and explicit consent is required, a member of the office will contact you to establish your consent.
We are committed to ensuring that the information we collect, and use is appropriate for this purpose, and does not constitute an invasion of your privacy.
We will not use personal data for any automated decision making or profiling.
Will we share your data with anyone else?
If you have contacted Ivan about a personal or policy issue, we may pass your personal data on to a third-party in the course of dealing with you, such as local authorities, government agencies, public bodies, health trusts, regulators and so on. Any third parties with whom we may share your data are obliged to keep your details securely, and to use them only for the basis upon which they were originally intended.
We will not share the personal information of members of Ivan Lewis MP’s Mailing List or those in receipt of his Newsletter.
In any case, we will not use your personal data in a way that goes beyond your reasonable expectations in contacting us.
For how long will you keep my personal data?
The office will hold personal data during Ivan Lewis MP’s term of office, as casework and policy queries are often revisited to provide the best service and representation for constituents. If Ivan were to leave office, personal data will be retained for three months, during which time constituents can contact us to ask that we retain their data to pass to the next sitting Member of Parliament for the Bury South constituency. Constituents can request erasure of their data at any time.
What rights do I have to my personal data?
At any point while we are in possession of, or processing your personal data, you, the data subject, have the following rights:
- Right of access – you have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you.
- Right of rectification – you have a right to correct data that we hold about you that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Right to be forgotten – in certain circumstances you can ask for the data we hold about you to be erased from our records.
- Right to restriction of processing – where certain conditions apply to have a right to restrict the processing.
- Right of portability – you have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organisation.
- Right to object – you have the right to object to certain types of processing, such as direct marketing.
- Right to object to automated processing, including profiling – you also have the right to be subject to the legal effects of automated processing or profiling.
- Right to judicial review – if our office refuses your request under rights of access, we will provide you with a reason why. You have the right to complain.
- Right to be informed and the right to withdraw consent at any time – when the processing is based on consent
